Doctor of Laws from Universidad Nacional de Colombia, professional historian, specialist in Criminal and Penitentiary Law, and holder of a Ph.D. in Law from Sapienza University of Rome, Italy. His background combines advanced academic training, extensive legal practice, and institutional leadership at the highest levels of criminal law.
He has built a broad national and international career as a professor, researcher, consultant, and lecturer, while directing international moot court teams, specialized journals, postgraduate diplomas, forums, and top-tier academic initiatives. Complemented by nearly three decades of private law practice, he brings deep expertise in analyzing, guiding, and conducting complex criminal matters.
He previously served as Dean of the Faculty of Law, Political and Social Sciences at Universidad Nacional de Colombia, where he also led the Criminal Law Department, the Juvenile Criminal Responsibility Observatory, and the “Criminology and Society” research group. Furthermore, he served as a Justice (Magistrado) of the Criminal Cassation Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice, where he also held the position of Acting President of the Court. His career seamlessly integrates private practice, university teaching, and high-level judicial experience at the apex of the criminal justice system.
