Attorney graduated from Universidad Externado de Colombia, holding a specialization in Criminal Law and Criminology and a Master’s Degree in Criminal and Criminological Sciences. His professional and academic career has focused on criminology, penology, criminal policy, and the penitentiary system, approaching punitive systems and the role of criminal law in the contemporary State with a critical and rigorous perspective.
He boasts an extensive record of academic and research publications on issues related to criminal procedure, criminal policy, youth and juvenile justice systems, prison violence, punishment, critical criminology, and prison reform. His work includes articles, research projects, books, and chapters published both in Colombia and internationally, establishing a high level of intellectual authority in the legal and strategic analysis of complex criminal matters.
He brings broad experience as a university professor, consultant, and technical commission member in criminal policy, childhood, adolescence, and human rights. He has taught criminology and penology across multiple universities, served as a consultant for UNICEF and the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Rights (OHCHR), worked as a legal advisor for the Legal Aid Clinic at Universidad de los Andes, and served on Colombia’s Advisory Commission on Criminal Policy. He has been practicing law since 1980, providing the firm with a solid foundation for designing, guiding, and analyzing strategic litigation in criminal, penitentiary, and criminal policy matters.
